It started as a homemade Christmas gift.
The first ‘dryrobe’ was based on an idea my mum had when I was younger (about 16). I always used to get cold changing in Godrevy car park or wherever I was surfing and living in Carbis Bay, near St. Ives in Cornwall.
Mum was handy with a sewing machine and decided to do something to help me. She gave me this homemade ‘thing’ one Christmas. It was like a huge cape with waterproof material on the outside, with a towel lining with an elasticated hole for your head to stick through, and a hood with poppers.
It took one cold winter's day, standing in a car park at Croyde in the rain with a soggy towel robe on, freezing cold for me to think, right, I’m going to make something better.
The first versions had no zip front and no sleeves, and the lining felt awful. I wore the first weatherproof dryrobe® change robe at Woolacombe, Devon in 2010. The first-ever waterproof, windproof dryrobe® change robe sold online in December 2010.
The outside is a solid barrier against wind and water.
The outer shell fabric is waterproof up to 25,000mm. PFC-free BIONIC-FINISH ECO® water-resistant finishing combined with heat-sealed seams creates a solid barrier against wind and water. Made from 100% recycled nylon.
- Durability
- Unlike other change robes which use polyester, the outer shell fabric of the Dryrobe® Advance is made from tough, recycled nylon which is renowned for its high level of durability compared to polyester alternatives.
- One sheet
- The whole garment is made from one huge sheet of durable recycled nylon, then the hood is added to keep the seams to a minimum and to maximise both strength and waterproofing.
- Breathable
- Airflow is essential to the drying process. The Dryrobe® Advance allows sweat and moisture to be transported away from the body and out from the garment without compromising its warmth and waterproof qualities.
The two-way YKK® zip works with your arms inside.
The Dryrobe® Advance features a chunky YKK® two-way reversible zip, which enables you to operate it with your arms either inside or outside of the change robe. You can also partially un-zip it from the bottom to allow more movement if needed for changing, walking, sitting or driving.
How to operate when closing
- Pull the upper slider down until it touches the bottom slider.
- Insert the separable pin to the very bottom slider. Make sure it’s completely inserted.
- Pull up the upper slider to close the zip.
How to operate when opening
- Completely pull down the top slider until it touches the bottom slider.
- Gently pull out the separable pin.

A university put it to the test after cold water.
To put the Dryrobe® Advance to the test, MMU Institute of Sport, a global leader in the academic study of sports science, undertook an independent research study to investigate the effects of wearing a Dryrobe® Advance after cold water immersion.

The Dryrobe® Advance is designed to be large and loose enough for you to pull your arms inside and get changed. Height is the main factor in choosing the size for a Dryrobe®. If you find yourself on the cusp of a size, we recommend choosing the smaller size.
If you’re purchasing a dryrobe® to solely wear as a jacket, we’d recommend dropping down a size. In addition to our Adult Range, we also have a Kids Range with two age brackets: 5-9 and 10-13.

It does not need washing regularly.
If it gets covered in mud or sand, try shaking it off or cleaning it with a damp sponge. In fact, it works just the same even if it's covered in mud, gets forgotten about and lives in the car between uses. (We've tested it too!).
When it is absolutely necessary
- Wash your Dryrobe inside out (ideally in the Guppyfriend Washing Bag)
- A gentle or delicate machine wash at MAX 30 degrees. Cold wash by hand is recommended if at all possible
- IMPORTANT: use a non-bio powder or a technical cleaner like Nikwax Tech Wash
- After the spin cycle, hang or lay flat and dry at room temperature.

Do you offer any discounts?
We don't do any general sales or discounts at any time of the year as we believe in the value of our product as a quality investment piece of kit, but we can offer 10% off if you are a student, serving member of the armed forces, NHS or emergency services staff on presentation of valid ID.

Can I embroider my Dryrobe® Advance myself or through my local embroidery company?
Yes, the Dryrobe® Advance has a hidden access zip under the right arm inside so it is possible to get between the outer shell and the fleece lining. Please make sure your local embroidery company only embroider the outer shell and apply a waterproof backing to the embroidery.
Can I exchange my item for a different size or colour?
If you need a different size, we offer an exchange by size for the same colour, subject to availability.
Can I change inside the Dryrobe® Waterproof Parka like the classic Dryrobe® Advance?
No. Unlike the signature oversized change robe design, the Waterproof Parka is built with a conventional coat fit and a tailored silhouette intended for everyday wear rather than changing underneath.
Will the car seat cover fit my XL van/ swivel chair/ captain seats?
Our car seat covers usually do fit captain seats and swivel chairs, the covers fit quite snug around the base as they are elasticated and have velcro straps too.
